FARMER TO FARMER: DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

Background: Since 1991, Partners of the America’s Farmer-to-Farmer (F2F) program has been transforming lives in over 30 countries in Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa and Asia. F2F connects specialized volunteers from the United States with farmers, cooperatives, agribusinesses, extension services, government agencies and other institutions. F2F is funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).  Ethos of Engagement has partnered on a volunteer basis with F2F on projects taking place in Honduras, the Dominican Republic, and Nicaragua.

Date: 2009

Partner: Partners of the Americas

Local Partners: ADESJO, Sur Futuro

ADESJO and Sur Futuro have accomplished amazing things in the communities they support. Both organizations have established community development projects in rural impoverished areas and improved the lives of the community members as a result.

EoE, through a series of interviews and activities, was able to provide an extensive observational report and highlight key areas for improvement as well as provide our recommendations on how best to make those improvements. These recommendations centered around facilitating communication between host institutions and F2F staff, increasing opportunities for capacity development and women’s participation, and assessing the project’s technical assistance and training needs.
